December 2, 2020Conor McGregor, one of the best-known UFC fighters in the world, is ending his 12-month retirement with a rematch against Dustin Poirier; location has not been confirmed but will most likely take place in Abu Dhabi, fighters will weigh in at 155 lbs
Conor McGregor has decided to come out of retirement for a rematch with Dustin Poirier. The last time the two met the fight ended with a victory for McGregor in the first round.
According to his official website, a contract has been agreed for a fight with the American at 155lbs on January 23, 2021. Abu Dhabi is likely to be the venue.
McGregor, now 32 years of age, announced his retirement in June but – as he has done twice before in 2016 and 2019 – he has reversed the decision.
It will have been a year since McGregor, a former two-division champion in UFC, last fought when he beat Donald Cerrone in January of this year.
“I am very grateful to be about to return and get to do what I love again,” McGregor said about the fight. “I look forward to the fresh test Dustin will bring since our first bout, while also showcasing my own incredibly deep cache of weaponry. Whatever tool is needed on the night will be pulled from the duffel.
“I am also really excited about aiding Dustin’s charity “The Good Fight Foundation”, which through the donation, will build a gym/premise for disadvantaged youth in his childhood hometown.
Poirier’s charity works to help disadvantaged youth find purpose through exercise and training. Poirier has challenged McGregor to match a donation, a challenge which the Irishman accepted.
“I truly love this, and pledge to match the donation on a premise in my own childhood hometown. Both spots with an ode to the upcoming bout.”
This fight will be a battle between two scrappy lightweights and should prove to be an exciting and bout where McGregor will add to his legendary status or Poirier will boost his standing in the world of MMA.
